How to Deal with Sore Throat & Cough

The most common problems I had to cope with during this winter were sore throat and cough. It happened about 2 weeks ago, I was using my heater all day long since Melbourne weather was not too friendly at that time. It was very cold and lack of humidity. Not long after that, I felt tickle and dry in my throat. I thought dryness caused me this, I had a lot of water to humidify my throat but it did not help much. My sore throat turned to become cough now. I had a couple of lozenges & dry cough syrup from nearest pharmacy just to ease the pain but still didn’t work for me until I followed this natural treatment.

1-2  fresh lemon or lime

1 tbsp honey

4 tbsp hot water (if needed)

  • Slice and squeeze lemons and put the juice into a cup
  • Add a tbsp of honey
  • Add hot water so you will have a warm elixir
  • Stir well and drink every time you feel dry or tickle in your throat

Though it is said that lemon works as natural desinfectant on the bacteria in your throat, but this elixir only soothed me temporarily. Fortunately, I discovered a remarkable cough syrup (sold at almost every Asian Grocery Store) that does a great job of making my sore throat and even my cough dissapear. It is called King To Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa or Nin Jiom Natural Traditional Chinese Herbal Cough Syrup.

This all-natural product is made up of balanced blend of ginger, honey, licorice, citrus and some Chinese herbs. It tastes good but a bit sugary, that is why it is not suitable for diabetics. At that time, I took 1 tbsp of this syrup 3 times a day and added 1 tsp every time I felt dry or tickle (it helped me to clear my airway from mucus or other irritant) and voila… a week cough cured only in two days…
